The building consists of three areas, covering 10650 Mts². The first is formed by three plants joined transversely. Here are the work cabinets of researchers and laboratories, which have equipment to perform their tasks according to the requirements of each research project. There is also the library, the small classroom, the recently renovated large classroom, the SUM, a small cinema, the conference room and the photography office, as well as the address, the administrative offices and the armaments captaincy.
The second area includes the workshop area and warehouses, where the spare parts of the vessels and the sampling equipment are stored, which are used in the research campaigns carried out by the Institute. From there, a gate communicates with the dock in which the INIDEP research vessels moor, facilitating access and transfer of the material to and from the boats.
In the third area there is an experimental mariculture station, with two floors, with its aquarium rooms, breeding sectors, laboratories and work cabinets.
