Atlas of temperature and salinity of the Southwest Atlantic Continental Shelf: warm and cold periods. In this atlas horizontal maps and mean sections at selected latitudes that represent temperature and salinity distribution in the Southwest Atlantic Continental Shelf (SWACS) are compiled. The data used derive from the observations gathered at the Regional Oceanographic Database (BaRDO) of the Instituto Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo Pesquero (INIDEP) corresponding to the 1911-2010 period in the area comprised between 27° S and 57° S, from the coast to 40° W. The maps of distribution of properties, prepared at standard levels (10, 20, 30, 50, 75, 100, 150 y 200 m) on the surface and bottom are presented in 0.5° regular grids for the warm and cold periods of temperature and annual of salinity. Horizontal distribution grids, calculated with the kriging interpolation geostatistical method, are accompanied with residual maps that show the reliability degree of the fields considered. Besides, maps of temperature difference of both periods for the surface and bottom fields are presented. With the same temporal classification zonal vertical sections with a 0.6° x 20 dB resolution where the mean condition is represented through the calculation of the median and its absolute deviation were elaborated. Due to the seasonality of the Río de la Plata River discharge, north of 36° S salinity sections were established for the warm and cold periods. The atlas shows the main temperature and salinity features of the SWACS and adjacent slope, the mean conditions at the extremes of the seasonal cycle (warm and cold) and its vertical structure at different latitudes.
